These two novellas don't stand alone, so if you haven't read the rest of the Administration, you won't appreciate them. For those of us who have been waiting for more from Manna Francis, it's a very nice treat.

Highly recommend

This is a review for the entire series thus far (8 books), since I somehow devoured them all in less than a week.

Without giving too much away, Francis takes the classic "violently possessive alpha male" cliche and turns it on its head: for one thing, it's a male/male couple. For another, it's all very well thought out--and unexcused, both by the narrative and the other characters. The character development is a slow, slow burn, just like the relationship. It kept me reading long into the night and on breaks at my desk and crammed into an elevator with a dozen other working professionals. They're just that good.

I will say that the first seven books are my favorites. I enjoyed this one, but it lacked the tension of the others. There's an excellent reason for it, however.

I love this book, the recipes are easy to make and a lot to chose from. I also like the explanation of being gluten free. I didn't realize it was such a big problem. I have started baking my owe bread and it is so nice not to have a stomach pains after eating.

Splendid book.

This is a book about the C# language and its uses rather than a game development book. And it's a bloody good one. I start making this statement in order to avoid confusion, as at the end of the day, it's called "Player's guide".

The reason why, is because it sort of points you in the right direction about the uses of the different functions and resources of the language when it comes to writing games. But then again, what this book will provide you is a solid understanding of the C# language, not only the basics, but pretty much everything you need to write thorough, elegant code as you make your first games.

About the author, RB Whitaker is the author of an acclaimed series of free XNA tutorials, that I personally consider one of the most well thought out I've found on the internet. I've used them a lot, and at first I bought the book partially by curiosity, partially by grattitude for his tremendous work in instructing people on the use of XNA and C# as a game development tool.

I couldn't regret it less. To be entirely honest, and after reading it from cover to cover, I have to say it's the best "condensed" and "readable" C# book I have in my programming library. I sometimes even use it instead of "Pro C# 5.0 and the .Net 4.5 Framework", to make some consultations.

Again, congratulations to the author, and I fully recommend this book to any beginner or intermediate level C# programmer. I'm sure you will get knowledge out of it.

THE book to learn C# programming!

I started XNA programming a few years back and found RB's website and his tutorials over a year ago. He has some of the best C# and XNA free tutorials out there. I would recommend checking them out.

When I heard he was writing a book, I was really excited because his tutorials are great. I was surprised, the book was even better than I expected.

Before getting into the book, let me describe my background with C#. I've been programming longer than I care to remember in C++, Assembler, VB, and even doing some light professional programming in C#. So, I'm not exactly new to C# or programming. Still, I never actually learned C#. I had been doing VB for years and switched over to VB.Net when it came out. Between that and knowing C++, I woke up one morning and realized that I already knew C# and just started programming. Because of that, there have been some gaps in my C# knowledge.

I actually wanted to be the first one to review this book because I was so excited about it. I immediately bought it and started reading. This book is less "dry" reading than most programming books, but its still a programming book. It had been so long since I had sat down and read a programming book cover to cover that I had forgotten how much work it can be trying to read a technical tome. But again, I would say this book was as easy as any other programming book I've ever read to get through.

I made it about 2/3rds of the way through the book, even learning a few things in spite of having been programming in C# for a few years semi-professionally. And then Microsoft abandoned XNA and I pretty much lost all interest in C# and Microsoft in general. It was actually Microsoft's decision on XNA that was mostly responsible for me never completely finishing the book and ultimately not writing the review.

But anyway, it was such a good book that I decided I should go ahead and write the review based on reading about 2/3rds of the way through it, as someone who knew C# fairly well before reading the book. That makes it a little difficult for me to take the perspective of an absolute beginner, but it appears to me that this book would be perfect for beginners as well.

Basically, this is by far the best C# book I've read. It doesn't cover XNA at all, but if you wanted to do XNA (even though Microsoft no longer supports it) through Mono or something, I would strongly recommend reading this book first. The book is written in an understandable way so that even an absolute beginner can start with this book. And yet at the same time, it takes you through the intermediate level of C# programming all the way to the door of advanced C# programming (to go much further than this book takes you, you would have to get into the internals of Windows or Assembly language or something along those lines).

Even though the title suggests a game, this book is not about game programming (or any specific type of programming); its about learning C#. And it does not disappoint. I would recommend it for anyone from a teenager wanting to start learning programming on their own, to IT professionals that think they might have a few gaps in their knowledge. It pretty much covers everything.

And RB has a gift for teaching. He's able to take advanced concepts and make them accessible to anyone. I think that's probably the reason to buy this book over any other C# book on the market. I own a few C# books, and this one is certainly my favorite.

So, to sum it up. I would highly recommend this book to anyone wanting to learn, or get better at C# programming.

Great Book for beginers

I bought The C# 2010 for Dummies Book a few years ago. After 2 chapters, I was lost and gave up. I tried to pick up C# again, however, I bought this book instead. I am very pleased with how the author explained each topic. The author progresses the book at a very good pace, building on top of what you just learned. I highly recommend this book to anyone starting out programming, anyone going to C# from another language, or any seasoned C# vet to use as a reference.

Before titanium drivers, before oversized heads and bubble shafts, before electronic systems to tell you how far you are from the pin, golf was much the same game it is today. The lessons Harvey Penick taught in the pre-gadget days still stand. The golf swing is basically the same, and Penick could teach it better than anybody. For most of his life, he never intended to publish his Little Red Book, a notebook of golf wisdom and anecdotes that he compiled with the idea that he'd pass it on to his son. But, for the sake of history, it's a good thing that he changed his mind. Contained in its 175 pages is just about all you need to know about golf from a technical standpoint, along with Penick's priceless memories of working with famous pros, teaching absolute nobodies to get the ball in the air, and finding a horde of bat guano and hauling it across town in a pickup truck to fertilize his golf course. This book makes you feel good about playing golf, that you're part of something steeped in ritual and mystery and tradition, and that the game was played perfectly well before perimeter-weighted, graphite-shafted irons came along.

He also instructs on the preparation required before approaching the first tee. Though the value of this book is its information, libraries owning previous works on the mental aspects of golf (e.g., Peter Cranford's The Winning Touch in Golf: A Psychological Approach , 1961. o.p.) can pass. Illustrations not seen.

Grip, Swing, Aim, Belief and Practice. The part about the bucket, putting and 4 club practice, improved my game and enjoyment

I meet a guy who had one of the last single memberships at the FedX Cup Course in Atlanta while hiking in NC. He recommended Harvey Penick's book to me. I started playing when I was in my early 60s, and as most golfers do I have good and bad days. I have had lessons by a good golf pro, even bought new irons. I improved, but not as much as I thought. This book helped take what my golf teacher taught me and helped me get my head more in the game. The book goes over the basics like holding the club, hand position, swing. But takes you into unusual areas like in your mind swing a bucket of water (you'll have to read the page or two this is on to get the just), but this has helped me with my new (golf pro) grip and the rithium of the swing. How to take aim and why you should do it with each swing or stroke. Putting, look at the green the slop, grass, three practice swings (I a more comfortable with two) and believe or even see the ball going in the hole before you strike it. Don't try to have the ball go too much past the hole when putting. It is better to have the ball stop just after the hole (this has helped me sink at least 4 or 5 extra putts on 18 holes. Because if your ball is just loosing momentum at the hole, a lipped put will go in (I do it now quite a few times playing 18), where a little faster put will rim out. This takes practice because of ripped greens or sloped greens, I still go for a little speed to take out the ball drift, which I usually pay for in a longer second shot. Another key point which I am just starting to do, and it is paying off. I take a few clubs after play slows down in the evening (I am lucky enough to have my home back up to the course). I take a 6 iron, 9 iron, wedge and a putter. Play one ball all the way to the green. Then I hit it back to the tee box and start back to the green again. This has got me use to and better with my swing, irons and short game. Harvey says only practice this way with one ball. Never any more and go all the way to the green. I hit my first ball with the six iron, just in front of the tee box. I usually hit 4 to 5 irons to get to the green (it is a par 5) depending on my shots, putt out. Put the ball in front of the green and hit back to the tee box. This really has improved my short game and putting. Get and read this book, there is a lot more in it that may help you.

Magical!!

This book is "Magical" in a sense! I'm a senior golfer who started playing about 3 years ago. I have purchased and read numerous books on how to improve your swing and overall game. I've also taken a few lessons! I normally shoot in the low 100's and on an occasion a 98 or 99! A friend recommended this book to me and I said "why not, I've tried everything else"! I had only read up to page 49 which covers "How to Knock Five Strokes Off Your Game". The next day I played a round with my regular foursome and shot an amazing 86!! I can't wait to finish the book just to see if it really is "Magical"!! If not it has so far made a believer out of me for at least one day!

Every golfer needs to read this book!

He taught the pros to improve! I've had the book for a week. Simple instructions that helped me from page one! Minor tweaks got instant results. I've come a long way in the last 3 years playing golf by copying others I've played with, this book will help me get farther than I can than without it. Favorite chapter so far "How To Knock 5 Strokes Off Your Game" I was like: It is that simple? Duh, really?! And so much more. This guy was a genius! This is just one man's opinion.

Everett B. Woodruff was a Project Engineer at A. M. Kinney, Inc., a leading architectural, engineering, and design process firm. He was involved in the design of industrial and utility power plants and provided consultation in steam plant operation and maintenance; in plant performance test requirements; and in the development of overall power plant specifications.

Herbert B. Lammers was a consultant for various industries which were dependent upon steam power plants for their reliable source of power. He provided expertise in the efficient combustion of various fuels and in the economic operation and maintenance of boilers and various power plant systems.

Thomas F. Lammers was a Senior Project Manager with Babcock & Wilcox Co., one of the world’s leading designers and suppliers of steam generating systems and related power plant equipment. During his 36 years with the company, Mr. Lammers had various management responsibilities in the areas of engineering, marketing, and project management. �He is the author of the Fifth through the Tenth Edition of Steam Plant Operation.
