James Rickards is a counselor, investment banker, and risk manager with over thirty years' experience in capital markets. He advises the Department of Defense, the U.S. intelligence community, and major hedge funds on global finance, and served as a facilitator of the first ever financial war games conducted by the Pentagon. The best thing since sliced bread?

Jim Rickards, who is famous, among other things, for his ability to accurately predict the Fed's moves ahead of time. His most recent accurate call was the implementation of Operation Twist, i.e the selling of short-term government debt and the buying of long-term government debt in order to increase short-term interest rates and decrease long-term interest rates.

The main theme of the book is that the world is already heading toward a full-blown currency war which will bring even harsher economic turmoil to the world economy than the one we experienced in the last three years since the housing bubble burst in the U.S.

Rickards explores in depth, basing his arguments on past currency wars such as the one after WW1 between several European countries and the U.S., and why currency wars are a lose-lose situation. In short, Rickards's main argument is that countries around the world are devaluing their currencies in order to boost their exports (domestically produced goods and services will be cheaper for foreigners) thereby increasing their GDP. However, such actions will frequently be met by mutual currency devaluation by other countries or by some protectionist policy such as tariffs. Therefore, countries will gain a temporary advantage until other countries retaliate, the end result of which will be: inflation brought on from currency devaluation, protectionism and the halt of free trade, thus - wealth destruction. And in a worst case scenario, an outright military conflict.

As was mentioned above, I found Rickards's thesis to be well argued and backed with plenty of historical facts. To sum up, this book just has it all, great and engaging writing, fascinating economic history, and shrewd analysis of the current and coming global crisis.

No one is safe from Rickards' insightful analysis in this original and fast-paced history of world economic and monetary policy and the currency wars that have led to destructive outcomes more than once in the last hundred years. Despite the fact that repeated manipulation of currency by various countries throughout recent history in an attempt to dominate trade and spur domestic economic growth has failed miserably, the U.S. now faces a new currency war that might be, as Rickards says, "the currency war to end all currency wars." His disdain for the use of Quantitative Easing and the creation of a new world central bank is palpable and the urgency with which he makes his argument is cogent and frankly, terrifying. Rickards tells a fascinating story, taking the reader from the use of gold as an international currency in the Sixth century BC up to the current day, seamlessly connecting historical events in a manner that will appeal to experts and novices alike. His reductionist descriptions and gallows humor spares no one, and his analogies are both informative and beautifully written. Currency Wars is a must read for everyone, from classically-trained economists to small-time investors. But beware: after you read this book, instead of stuffing your mattress with cash, you may be inclined to do so with gold bullion.

If you have the stomach for doing a deep dive into the causes and cures of the worldwide financial morass we're in, here it is! "Currency Wars" takes you on a journey unlike any other. From a firsthand account of the wranglings at a mock "financial war game" in the bowels of the Pentagon, through a rich and literate history of previous currency wars with their devastating outcomes, Rickards is in full command of his topic. The author then brings us right up to present moment where he offers possible endgame scenarios to this latest currency war: paper, gold, or chaos! With outcome uncertain and stakes sky high, the tension is palpable! The final chapter is simply mind blowing! But that's not all. "Currency Wars" isn't simply an economics or history book. Rickards gives us a lot more. Chapter 9 is the most stinging indictment yet of the policy and intellectual failures of the Fed, Keynesianism and Monetarism. When you finish Chapter 9 your faith in economic conventional wisdom will be thoroughly shattered. The author also offers up some of the most original theory and analysis in economics since John Maynard Keynes himself in the 1920's. It's conceptually challenging but well worth the effort.

Unlike the financial meltdown of '08, this time you can say you've been warned. Extremely timely, and yet ahead of its time, "Currency Wars" is a revelation. For brevity’s sake I shall give an overview of the major sections of this text. Section one covers clinical engineering history, roles, models (academic, regional, military), job descriptions, and careers. Section two gives an overview of worldwide practices in clinical engineering, with example chapters covering the practice in several countries, such as Estonia, Paraguay and Japan. Section three gives an overview of healthcare technology management topics, covering good manufacturing practices, outsourcing, maintenance and repair, etc. There are several useful forms and flowcharts to be found here. Section four reviews management styles, finances, personnel matters, skills needed, and quality assurance. Section five reviews several topics involving safety, such as risk management, best practices, accidents, and special cases involving electrical safety and electromagnetic interference. Section six reviews the education and training of clinical engineers, including reviews of practices in North America and Germany, internships, BET licensing, the use of workshops and distance education, etc. Section seven reviews the design, manufacture, evaluation and control of medical devices. It includes some useful material on human factors, liability, and Institutional Review Boards. Medical Devices, Utilization and Service is the title of section eight. This section reviews devices commonly used in different sections of the hospital (e.g. anesthesiology and perinatology) and as well discusses troubleshooting techniques. Section thirteen, the final part of the text, briefly addresses some potential future trends in clinical engineering practice and some of the trends that may affect it.

To reiterate: this is an exceedingly comprehensive handbook. The field of clinical engineering (worldwide) is very well described here. While the level of each individual chapter varies considerably (from one page summaries to multiple page well-documented and illustrated chapters) this text overall will be very useful as a reference text for practitioners and students of clinical engineering. Many individual chapters will serve as teaching material for lectures in clinical and bioengineering courses.

Jennifer Shin and Michael Cunningham from Boston, USA have published an impressive book with 37 chapters in 1226 pages. It aims to enable the reader to retain ENT knowledge by presenting it in a way that enforces application of knowledge in an active learning process...The case presentations guide the reader through common but challenging cases, slowly building up the available information and providing high quality investigation results, to guide the reader through to the management of the case. The focus questions chapter is a quick-fire of pertinent and delving questions on the most encountered topics within all areas of otolaryngology practice with dedicated chapters for salivary, parathyroid and the facial nerve. By far the stand out sections of this book are the radiology and histopathology chapters. These build on the previous chapters with a plethora of detailed high quality pictures, annotated and explained in order to demystify an area that is unfamiliar to those graduating from medical schools in the last decade. I feel that this book has a place on the bookshelf of ENT registrars and residents on both sides of the Atlantic. It provides a good overall understanding and equips them with the armamentarium to tackle more complex cases as well as solidify knowledge in areas they may not have been exposed to. About the Author
Jennifer J. Shin, M.D., attended Harvard Radcliffe College and Harvard Medical School. She completed residency training at the Harvard Program in Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery and a fellowship in Pediatric Otolaryngology at the Massachusetts Eye and Ear Infirmary. A previous National Institute of Health Fellow and Howard Hughes Medical Institute Fellow, she continues to be actively involved in clinical research. She is also the lead editor of Evidence-Based Otolaryngology, and has been the recipient of multiple awards. While practicing as a pediatric otolaryngologist, she currently maintains a faculty appointment through Harvard Medical School. She teaches regularly at the Harvard School of Public Health and through an American Academy of Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery Foundation sponsored curriculum.

Michael J. Cunningham, M.D., is a graduate of Princeton University (1977) and the Rochester University School of Medicine (1981). He completed Pediatrics training at the Massachusetts General Hospital and Otolaryngology training at the University of Pittsburgh. He has practiced as a pediatric otolaryngologist since 1989, for many years at the Massachusetts Eye and Ear Infirmary and more recently at the Children's Hospital Boston. He is currently Otolaryngologist-in-Chief of the Department of Otolaryngology and Communication Enhancement at the Children's Hospital Boston, and Professor of Otology and Laryngology at the Harvard Medical School.

Excellent choice if Q&A with bullet points is your preferred learning style

This book is an extraordinarily rich resource to use in long-term preparation for the otolaryngology in-training examination or board examination...if this is the style of learning you prefer. It has well-organized sections that contain high-yield topics with big picture & detail-oriented facts. I would not recommend attempting to read this text during the month or two months leading up to your examination; it is better suited for preparing over the course of a longer period of time.

The sections are arranged in question & answer format with several bullet-point details given along with the answers; these are well-written & help to solidify the concepts being tested in each questions.

This book contains numerous photos, histologic & cytologic images and charts/diagrams to aid in demonstrating a very broad range of concepts that are encompassed within otolaryngology practice.

I have been very pleased with this purchase and recommend it to residents in otolaryngology or ENT doctors who have been in practice and are seeking a thorough review book...if this is the style of learning you prefer.

Excellent course content but it is a little overpriced. I am going to use it to learn Microsoft Project but I recommend that you get the Microsoft Step-By-Step used book instead. You get more for your money!!!

Neither accessible nor insightful

This is a relatively good book in terms of giving an overview on strategic marketing in the digital-era, but for anyone other than an industry professional I would not recommend it. "Greenberg and Kates" (in quotations because they are not, by a long shot, the sole authors of the book, especially during the last few chapters) throw out several buzz words and terms, most of which are entirely made up, resulting in a pseudo-intellectual jumble of acronyms and abbreviations that look like Scrabble misfires. You can tell that "they" (depending on whoever actually came up with a lot of this nonsense) are hoping these words catch on, but they're doing a disservice to the marketing upstarts and students by presenting a false platform from which one is intended to build knowledge, rather than have to re-read a chapter because its lack of organization makes it difficult for one to retain or glean anything meaningful.

Greenberg, Kates, and Co. also spend a lot of time pontificating about how business executives and CEOs don't understand the digital market at all, when they aren't slapping lengthy paragraphs of "I predict..." near the end of the chapters. I couldn't help but roll my eyes at these passages because they don't represent any pertinent information, similar to the passages in which they discuss how much money they make, how many bigwigs they've rubbed shoulders with, etc. As a graduate student I found this book troublesome, partially because the text was not well-edited and partially because it repeated many sentiments throughout (marketers are using digital advertising MORE than ever before? consumers are buying MORE products and services from the internet than brick-and-mortar stores? you don't say!) instead of building on something new with each chapter. Most of the examples cited will also be "old" data in a few years, so you can count on another edition soon.

I'm sure that an industry professional would get more out of this than I did, but I'd caution anyone who isn't fully ingrained in the marketing field to steer clear of this book if they want something accessible and insightful.

A Guidebook to Uncharted Territory

"Strategic Digital Marketing" serves as a primer for entering the brave new world of reaching and retaining customers, in a way that is both accessible to the novice with a valuably broad perspective for the specialist. Its chapters survey the responsibilities of people who wear many different hats in a modern company with a digital presence. ROI measurement, website design, social media, mobile, video marketing, legal considerations, and even organizational structure and leadership are uniquely considered under the lens of this new phase in the evolution of marketing.

Greenberg and Kates remind us that the Internet is not magic, and an inadequate understanding of its channels and services can create problems instead of abundance if improperly applied. Case in point, the memorable FedEx gift certificate fiasco that brought down the customer facing site, angering many customers, for a promotion of dubious value to the company's brand development even in its inception.

Highly sensitive to the ephemerality of its subject, (Kates gives a prominent nod to Heraclitus,) the instructional meat of "Strategic Digital Marketing" introduces us to the tools and channels by illustrating the role each plays in the larger digital ecosystem. For example, YouTube isn't presented as an insider's game with tips to take on faith; on the contrary, explaining concepts such as metadata and how it works, the must-haves in planning and shooting video on your own, and how annotations power ad affiliate programs prepares the individual investing the time to learn the underlying mechanics to work with different and more complex toolchains independently. In other words, this book is not a step by step consulting guide with an expiration date, but rather a manual for building foundational digital marketing skills in an evolving frontier.

The book's factual citations leave no doubt: effective digital marketing strategy will eventually be necessary to the survival of every business. The question we should be asking ourselves is whether we're ready to learn these new media and manage our companies' destinies, or forever play catch-up just to keep from going under. This book gives you the foundation needed to determine your own steps.

A must read if you are a novice

This book has to be read especially if you are almost new with digital marketing. Other readings are required in order to be an expert but, for a general overview, this book is excellent.

and the price was excellent. I was surprised that the book appeared to ...

I purchased this book used, and the price was excellent. I was surprised that the book appeared to be new when it arrived (although I did find one page that had underlining written on it). However, after a few days the book started to fall apart. Now that I am three weeks into my course, I am ready to just put all the pages into a binder as they will not stay put. On top of that, I have found errors in the text. Specifically, I noted an incorrect answer in the Self-Check section in the back, so I informed my classmates. It seems that I have a first printing of the text, and some errors have been corrected for subsequent printings, but I have no way of know what corrections have been made. It seems like an errata sheet should have bee published and provided. (The books of some of my classmates did NOT have the wrong answers in the back, and that is a true indication that corrections were made in later printings of the same edition.) I do plan to contact the publisher to ask about an errata sheet, and I recommend anyone purchasing this text used do the same.

This book does a decent job at what it claims...As for the print and binding quality, I will have to rate that pretty poor. Mine has not fallen apart yet, but I have several friends who used the same book for class, and pages are already falling out. Unfortunately, if you have to get the book, I'm not sure there's a way around this, but it's something to expect. It is not (and does not proport to be) an introduction to research generally. It is an intro do Education/Psychology type research involving human subjects. Some of the information such as how to find a journal article you could just find out from a librarian, or by searching around online a bit, but there is a lot of terminology relating to epistemologies, and other field-specific terms for Education/Psyc type research. Overall a decent book, takes a while to get through, but not difficult material by any means.

About the Author
Mary Fabyan Windeatt lived from 1910-1979 and grew up in Saskatchewan, Canada. The Mount Saint Vincent College awarded her a Licentiate of Music degree when she was just seventeen, and she began writing Catholic works when she was about twenty-four. Later she sent one of her stories to a Catholic magazine, and after it was accepted, she continued to write. In total she composed at least twenty-one children???s books, as well as periodical children???s pages written for The Torch, a monthly Dominican magazine.
Mary Windeatt is most renowned for her many novels of the saints, which she wrote specifically for children, including lives on the Children of Fatima, Cure of Ars, St. Thomas Aquinas, St. Rose of Lima and many others. After living with her mother in St. Meinrad, Indiana, she died on the twentieth of November, 1979.

Educational and Enjoyable

I got this and several of the other related coloring books for gifts for Christmas. They are wonderful - one side of the page tells the story in understandable language for children (or adults) and the other side has a picture to color. They are a great way to tell the story of the Catholic faith
