About the Author
Rich Wilson has been writing about rock music for longer than he cares to remember. A graduate of Bradford University, Rich has been a regular contributor to Classic Rock, Prog Magazine, Rock Hard, Metal Hammer and Record Collector over the last fifteen years. Rich lives on the outskirts of Manchester, England with his wife and Labrador. He is renowned for his love of dodgy 1970s prog rock bands, and his collection of even more dubious 1980s heavy metal albums.

Simply amazing

This book was simply amazing. I learned a lot of new things about the band that I wasn't aware of. It is VERY well-written, well-researched, and well... satisfying! I highly recommend buying this book if you want to learn a lot about the band Dream Theater. As a matter of fact... I wish other books about other bands were as good as this book is. I would definitely read more from this writer.

I know that I will be re-reading this book many times in the future.

The book was long... I am a fast reader... it took me about a week to read. When you open the book, it has text from the very top of the page ... jam packed... all the way to the bottom. It took FULL advantage of the page size. Nicely designed... the cover was interesting. I would have loved to see a different color scheme... blue with stars and dustclouds... but that's being picky.

Comes with my HIGHEST recommendation.

Amazing read. A little unbalanced

Amazing read. A little unbalanced, in that the first half of the book was pre-James Labrie, and the 2nd half felt like they whipped through the discography. I also would have loved more interviews and details about MP's departure. Seriously though I can't complain. This book is amazing. So interesting to read about singer auditions and band practices with Kevin Moore, etc.

Outstanding biography about one of the greatest bands ever!

Being a Dream Theater fan, I read this book in the span of about a week, which is rare for me, especially as this was a thick book with small print. This was the best book I've read in a long time, telling the story of Dream Theater's founding, challenges with the music industry, their integrity during those trials, and their constant progress through the times up to the point when Mike Mangini replaced Mike Portney on drums. This book is alive as you experience extended quotes from band members and others who worked with them. You get all sides of the story in this book. I feel as if I know these people after this engaging read. Another thing I liked about this book is the detail given to explain the inspirations and meanings behind many of their songs, described by the band members themselves. As a musician who has been on a long hiatus, this book has re-energized my inspiration to begin recording again. I will definitely read this book again in the future.

About the Author
Magdalena Droste studied art history and literature in Aachen and Marburg. She has worked at the Bauhaus-Archiv in Berlin since 1980 and is professor of art history at the BTU Cottbus since 1997. Droste has contributed to numerous exhibitions and publications on Bauhaus artists, besides writing a number of essays on the furniture and textile workshops at the Bauhaus and on arts and crafts as a women’s profession.

Peter G�ssel runs an agency for museum and exhibition design. For TASCHEN he published monographs on Julius Shulman, R. M. Schindler, John Lautner and Richard Neutra as well as several architecture titles in the Basic Art Series.

While this book offers an excellent collection of images related to the Bauhaus, it traces the history and the development of the Bauhaus comprehensively as well.

This book, alongwith Eva Forgacs' Bauhaus Idea and Bauhaus Politics can give you a general idea about what the institution was all about.

Introduction

In our everyday lexicon, words such as "toning," "aerobic," and "lifting" bring to mind a workout at the gym. Other terms--such as "study," "syllabus," and "exam"--suggest we are talking about school. However, certain words transcend the environments with which they are most closely linked. In the past few years, the term "core" has entered the collective consciousness. We hear of toning the core at the gym, firing from the core on the athletic field, getting up from a desk at a sedentary job to engage the core, and strengthening the core at the physical therapist's office. With so many uses and meanings, core is justifiably here to stay.

What Exactly is the Core?

The term "core" refers to the muscles in the lower trunk area that work together to provide support and mobility, enabling all bodily movement. The core includes the rectus abdominis, or six-pack, which tenses the abdominal wall by contracting the abdominal muscles. Surrounding your abs are the internal and external obliques, which allow you to bend from side to side and rotate your torso. The Christmas tree–shaped erector spinae is situated behind the abdominals, at the lower back, and is responsible for spinal stabilization and spinal movement. Lastly, the hip flexors act as the foundation of this muscular complex, supporting movement in the pelvic area.

Essentially, the core is the center of the body and is key in terms of performance, functionality, and longevity. Improving the core's aesthetic and mobility necessitates consistent and diligent effort. Getting the most out of your core requires more than just the right diet. Core exercises enable the skeleton, muscles, and joints to work together properly, as well as offering a combination of strengthening, stretching, balancing, realigning, and fat loss that nutrition alone would not achieve.

Excellent, simple presentation of core anatomy in relation to exercise

Review Anatomy of Core Stability by Hollis Lance is easy to read. The information is complete and usefully presented. I especially like having the models pictured beside the diagrams so surface anatomy can often be correlated with muscular anatomy. The models look like fit average people, not body builders or hulks so we can compare to ourselves. My only suggestion would be speedos rather than long shorts so more surface anatomy, especially thighs and lower abs could be seen.

The pictures and diagrams are large and clear and surprisingly uncluttered for anatomy drawings. The text, is informative without being pedantic. Also the text is sparse and helpful, mostly consisting of brief comments as to level, time to complete, benefits, restrictions and in some cases modifications possible. The exercises included, while not encyclopedic, are complete enough. There are some suggested workouts or collections of exercises with specific goals given at the end which look good.

This a good buy in the rash of "anatomy" books coming out now.

Very helpful tool

This book had lots of new exercises and gave me a new way to look at and improve my core stability. Some of the exercises looked pretty simple but they were challenging. I liked the way the exercises were explained and the photographs made it easy to follow. At the end of the book there are six great workouts set out for you.

Finally, a first-rate primer on scenario planning

This new (and visually striking) book fills a big gap in the marketplace -- in fact, it's now the must-read primer for anyone interested in scenario planning. Until now, books on this subject were either very dry and academic, or fluffy "futurist" works. Where, I wondered, was the basic (but comprehensive) introduction and "how to" guide to the field? Well, I'm delighted to say this author has filled the gap with a lushly illustrated work that uses visuals explain the "how and why" of scenarios, and how to apply them for a wide variety of business, government, and non-profit purposes. Nicely weaved into the book are the author's own views on eleven key trends shaping the future. Bravo! Maybe we can all see the future a bit more clearly now...

I teach the concept of scenario planning to students in a strategy class, but I never found a book that explained it clearly and easily.
Now I have: this book has a completely practical focus and walks you through the process step by step. It's also a beautifully designed book.
I will test it out with my class in the upcoming semester.

A great book for university courses as well.

This is a great book; clear, intelligent and practical. I chose this book for an upper level Strategic Planning course. Students made great use of the material. I looked at a number of options for a text covering the scenario planning part of the course. No other book came close.

What is particularly helpful is the combination of conceptual, design and practical thought shown in the book's development. Scenario planning is often presented in ways that are either impenetrable or trivial. Theory and practice are well integrated here and there is nothing misplaced in that integration.

I recommend this book without hesitation.
